Nick Caserio spoke… and this time, he actually said something.
The Texans GM was far more open than usual, delivering a clear endorsement of offensive coordinator Nick Caley, while staying noticeably non-committal on Joe Mixon’s future. And when you look at the numbers, you understand why Houston is standing pat — for now.
Once the Texans finally found their best offensive line combination — with Trent Brown stepping in during Week 10 — the offense changed dramatically:
Points per game jumped from 21.8 to 26.2
Rushing yards per game increased
Turnovers dropped
Sacks went down
Yards per game went up
Once Caley had the pieces, the offense fell in line. And that matters, because this is exactly what Houston signed up for last offseason.
But Caserio didn’t dodge everything. He repeatedly brought up the playoff turnovers, signaling real accountability from the top. That disastrous postseason performance is now the defining talking point of the Texans’ offseason.
Then came the most telling moment of the presser: when asked about CJ Stroud’s development, Caserio deflected. And the truth is uncomfortable — Houston has NOT done enough to develop its franchise QB. There’s been a revolving door of offensive talent, and Stroud has gone an entire season without consistent playmakers outside of Nico Collins and Dalton Schultz. That’s a problem. A big one.
