Th New England Patriots are hiring Mike Vrabel as their 16th head coach in franchise history for one big reason … they prioritized experience over potential. Once a beloved former Patriots linebacker, Vrabel will now help guide the team for which he played for eight seasons back to respectability. Having been hired as head coach of the Tennessee Titans in 2018, Vrabel led the Titans to two AFC South titles and three playoff berths in his six years at the helm. However, he was dismissed after the 2023 season after some disconnect with the Titans front office and some playoff sputters. Still, the 49-year-old projects as a string fir with New England. Perhaps a younger, innovative play-caller on offense like Detroit Lions might have been the best fit for the Pats for the long term. However, for a team currently in desperate need of direction on building a program and discipline to correct countless mistakes on football fundamentals, Vrabel proves to be the safer choice.
