The Washington Commanders offensive backfield is shaping up to be a versatile nightmare for opposing defenses. Evaluating the early OTA practices reveals that offensive coordinator David Blough is not hosting a traditional position battle, but rather structuring a highly specialized rotation.
Utilizing Jacory Croskey-Merritt (who didn’t participate in team drills in the one OTA practice open to media so far) as an efficient early-down producer, heavily insulated by the elite receiving traits of Rachaad White, completely alters the offense’s unpredictability. Furthermore, the specialized kick return value of Jerome Ford establishes incredible special teams stability.
On the special teams front, undrafted rookie Drew Stevens is booming 60-plus-yard kicks indoors, establishing a massive, undeniable leg-strength advantage over Jake Moody in the kicking competition.
Defensively, Daronte Jones is fielding a front seven so deep that established veterans are being forced to execute flawlessly just to secure rotational snaps. With massive interior penetration from Javon Kinlaw and intense peer accountability in the secondary, the practice standards have officially skyrocketed.
