Daily DLP: Lions Ota Injury Updates and Notes | Detroit Lions Podcast
The Detroit Lions held the second session of OTAs open to the media on Thursday, and head coach Dan Campbell led off the walkthrough practice with some tough news on the injury front. Rookie WR Kendrick Law will miss his debut NFL season after suffering a torn ACL in a non-contact drill earlier this week.
It’s a tough blow for Law, though in the grand scheme of things it shouldn’t impact the Lions on the field in 2026. Law was not a lock to make the 53-man roster by any stretch as a depth receiver and perhaps return man. Detroit still has Tom Kennedy and Dominic Lovett, among others, to battle for that reserve WR spot. The Lions did sign an undrafted rookie, Tyre Duplessis from Delaware, to take Law’s spot for the time being. Duplessis is a big unknown after relatively scant production in college and underwhelming athletic attributes for the position.
The worse news came on the Kerby Joseph front. Coach Campbell indicated that the All-Pro safety is still not ready and the team doesn’t have a good idea, any idea really, if or when Joseph will be back. His knee injury is not allowing him to participate yet, and it might linger permanently. With fellow safety Brian Branch also sidelined until at least midseason as he rehabs a torn Achilles, what was once the NFL’s best safety tandem might not play together again. That’s a harsh but growing reality for the Lions. At least the team did a better job this offseason of preparing and reinforcing the safety room with quality vets like Christian Izien and Chuck Clark, plus a healthy Dan Jackson returning for his second season.
On a more positive front, tight end Sam LaPorta and cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and DJ Reed were all spotted working out and looking strong. That’s good, because the Lions can surely use them all at full speed come September.
