The Daily DLP welcomes ESPN analyst Ben Solak to the show for a lively discussion on quite a few topics. Solak joins host Jeff Risdon to talk about the pending Lions contract extensions, the team’s window for winning the Super Bowl with Jared Goff, recapping the 2026 NFL Draft class and more.
Spawned by the recent extension to Miami RB Devon Achane, the discussion fires up over how much Detroit can pay Jahmyr Gibbs. There’s a game of chicken going on between the Lions and Falcons over which team pays their premium running back first, as Solak explains why each team would prefer to be second in doling out the massive contract.
Which of the Lions players from the illustrious 2023 draft class would Solak prioritize for their due contract extensions. There are big decisions coming with Jack Campbell, Sam LaPorta and Brian Branch, and of course Gibbs too.
Jared Goff is better than Aaron Rodgers. That’s an easy statement for Solak, who is not a fan of the Steelers offseason plan at quarterback. He is warmer on Goff, and makes the case for the Lions being able to win a Super Bowl with Goff at the helm. Conditions have to be right, and the Detroit offseason moved in the right direction to facilitate that chance in 2026.
