Week 1 is finally here for the Miami Dolphins.
After an offseason of massive roster turnover, a new coaching staff, a new starting quarterback and one of the youngest rosters in the NFL, Jeff Hafley’s Dolphins are preparing for their first real test against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jim “GRIES” Grieshaber is joined by Kyle Crabbs, former Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Jeff Zgonina, and Wes Goldberg to break down the biggest storylines heading into the season opener.
Miami has selected its 2026 captains, with Malik Willis, De’Von Achane, Aaron Brewer, Patrick Paul, Zach Sieler and Jordyn Brooks chosen to lead the team. Willis enters Week 1 not only as Miami’s new QB1, but as a captain voted in by his teammates — a strong sign of how quickly he has earned trust inside the Dolphins locker room.
The Squad also dives into Miami’s first regular-season depth chart and the youth movement that has become impossible to ignore.
Rookies and young players including Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell, Kadyn Proctor, Jacob Rodriguez, Dante Trader Jr. and Chris Johnson Jr. are being trusted with major starting roles immediately.
Can Miami’s young wide receiver group surprise people? Could Malik Washington emerge as the team’s most reliable target? How quickly can Douglas and Bell make an impact? And why does Kyle believe tight end Will Kacmarek could quietly be an important part of Miami’s Week 1 offensive structure?
The offensive matchup begins with De’Von Achane and Miami’s run game, but Las Vegas presents one enormous problem up front: Maxx Crosby. The crew discusses how Bobby Slowik can protect Willis and Miami’s young offensive line without limiting the offense.
Defensively, the challenge is just as significant.
Veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins will immediately test Miami’s young linebackers and secondary, while Brock Bowers presents one of the most difficult matchup problems in football. Rookie linebacker Jacob Rodriguez gets his first true NFL test after winning a starting job over veteran Tyrel Dodson.
