The New Orleans Saints should start rookie Spencer Rattler over Jake Haener with Derek Carr out. While neither Haener nor Rattler would be a bad choice, the rookie provides the team a unique opportunity for offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to introduce some new wrinkles and curveballs into the offense. Getting Taysom Hill back would be of major benefit for the team and Rattler as well.
Haener’s confidence, anticipation and ball placement make him a solid candidate to start, too. The Saints’ can’t go wrong in getting to learn more about either of these guys. Carr will retain his starting job when he returns, but the young guys sure can make the future more interesting with great performances against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos. Davante Adams sounds like he’s still interested in the Saints despite Carr’s injury. The real hold up? The Las Vegas Raiders want what no team seems willing to give them.
