Trading third-year receiver Luke McCaffrey right now is a mistake. Despite a regression in his kick return numbers and low offensive volume early in his career, David Blough’s scheme provides the exact overhaul McCaffrey needs. Blough’s parallel-route passing attack isolates targets in space, which directly plays into McCaffrey’s yards-after-catch ability. Pair that with the offense finally moving away from predictable shotgun rushing concepts to improve early-down efficiency, and Washington has the structure to maximize his skill set.
On the other side of the ball, Dan Quinn is demanding a much more physical identity from his defense. The primary battle to watch is for the defensive green dot, with safety Nick Cross, veteran Frankie Luvu, and rookie Sonny Styles all competing for the communication role.
Meanwhile, Adam Peters and the front office remain aggressive. They are actively monitoring the trade market to potentially land a premium target like Stefon Diggs or Brandon Aiyuk before mandatory minicamp kicks off in June.
