Tyler Shough is positioned to become the story after the New Orleans Saints’ season opener against the Detroit Lions. The second-year quarterback can exploit an injury-hit secondary missing Brian Branch, Terrion Arnold and Kerby Joseph. With Chris Olave, Juwan Johnson, Noah Fant, Barion Brown, and Travis Etienne Jr. adding matchup problems, Shough is projected to throw for a big day in Detroit.
The Saints’ pass rush could decide the game. After recording 10 sacks last season, Chase Young faces a vulnerable Lions offensive line with a rookie tackle, an unsettled left guard spot, and a backup center. Expect Brandon Staley to attack Jared Goff on third down, with Young projected for a disruptive day. Barion Brown is also a candidate to score New Orleans’ first touchdown, while Julian Blackmon and Jonas Sanker could help generate turnovers against Detroit’s explosive passing attack.
