Jayden Daniels and the Commanders offense had an ugly day at the team scrimmage, but a closer look at the context shows why there’s no reason to panic just yet.
The Gold team, featuring the starting defense, shut out the Burgundy team’s starting offense 14-0 in a scrimmage that was designed by the coaching staff to be a tough evaluation. While the stats don’t look good for the second-year quarterback, the reasons for the struggles are clear. The offense was without key starters like WR Terry McLaurin, WR Noah Brown, and G Sam Cosmi due to injury, and LT Laremy Tunsil was rotating in and out while nursing an injury of his own.
This compromised unit was tasked with facing the team’s own dominant starting defense, which features disruptive players like Frankie Luvu and Dorance Armstrong Jr.
